"The artist must create a spark before he can make a fire
and before art is born,
the artist must be ready to be consumed
by the fire of his own creation."
— Auguste Rodin
So you plan to be a digital builder/creator...
In order to plan your studies ahead of time, first you will need to define the broad areas your study modules will fall under.
The knowledge and skills of the digital builder/creator class falls under the following categories:
- (Digital) Product/Service Design
- Content Creation
- Web and Application Development
Similar to how an artist will need to understand the canvas, environment and materials he/she will use to create their art... You as a digital builder/creator will also need to understand the digital infrastructure, environment, data flows, programming languages and software tools that will aid you in your craft.
The following foundations are necessary/may help greatly for you to build your craft on:
- (Digital) Infrastructure
- Data Engineering
With this understanding, let's go through some General Study Plans and Methods.
General Study Method and Template #01: Learning Plan
Imagine the flow of time as a river that goes only one way. A Learning Plan will help you segment out your time, so that you can plan for certain sequence of study activities in a certain time period.
This will be necessary because there are lots of software and tools out there nowadays to do digital product/service design, content creation and web & app development tasks.
You will be learning, using, discarding and relearning old/new software tools during your studies and future work activities as an ICT professional.
For instance, you plan to learn all the software tools in the Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) Suite. How do you go about this self-guided learning journey?
Let's break down the steps in this example.
Step 1 - Map Out What Software Products Are Under the Adobe Creative Cloud Umbrella
Step 2 - Decide On the Focus > Starting Point of Your Exploration > Come Up with a Learning Plan

General Study Method and Template #02: Understanding the Lingo of Your Discipline(s)
There are a variety of domain-specific disciplines under the builder track of Computer Science and Engineering.
Each disciplines might have their own way of defining different work process or theoretical elements.
When learning a new discipline, one way for a newcomer to accelerate his/her learning process is to build a glossary list and find the meanings of the different terms.
