The pacing of the digitalisation race in the modern era is getting hot. Gaps in human design of digital systems<\/strong> are being exploited by threat actors<\/strong>. Things have now reach a state where there is a need to be intentional in infrastructure\/software design<\/strong>, to reduce the attack surface of our digital systems<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

You might have noticed the various country news I have shared the past two weeks. There are currently various country-level plans\/moves to digitalise rapidly<\/strong>, with countries placing more emphasis on national level cybersecurity initiatives<\/strong>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This means that Computer Science is ascending into a period of probable fluidity<\/strong> as policy makers seeks to guide the intent and design of digital\/infrastructure creations<\/strong>. Should there be significant moves, the industry’s best practices and design methods could be transformed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In a recent article sharing by Defense Scoop<\/a>, it is noted that U.S. Cyber Command<\/a> is establishing its own cyber intelligence center.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The idea for the center, dubbed the Cyber Intelligence Center, was first described in November by Maj. Gen. Matteo Martemucci, Cybercom\u2019s director for intelligence.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

For years, dating back to when Cybercom was created, there have been discussions surrounding building the capability and capacity for developing organic cyber intelligence. Relatedly, as cyber has grown in importance, there have been increasing discussions for years at the Defense Intelligence Agency regarding what foundational cyber intelligence is.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

‘If you think about foundational military intelligence, it\u2019s based on understanding what the foreign militaries have, what the capabilities are based on the physical presence of these things. It\u2019s harder in cyber, because you may know where a cyber facility physically is located, but you really don\u2019t know what activity is going on inside that facility. You don\u2019t know what tools are being taken advantage of<\/strong>. You don\u2019t know what networks are being operated on<\/strong>,’ Berrier said.<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Frost said they\u2019re ‘building the plane in-flight’ when it comes to personnel and cyber intelligence for such a center, an analogy officials often used to describe the creation and stand up of Cybercom.”<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n
