Ministry of Defence (MINDEF)‘s Digital and Intelligence Service (DIS) and AI Singapore have signed a memorandum to enhance singapore’s digital defence through leveling up AI capabilities.
“Senior Minister of State for Defence Mr Heng Chee How officiated the inaugural AI Student Developer Conference at the Lifelong Learning Institute today (13 May 2023, Saturday).
The MOU between AISG and the DIS was signed by Head of LearnAI at AISG, Mr Koo Sengmeng and DIS Chief Digitalisation Officer Military Expert 7 (ME7) Guo Jinghua. Senior Director of AI Governance at AISG, Prof Simon Chesterman and Chief of Digital and Intelligence Service/Director Military Intelligence, Brigadier-General Lee Yi-Jin witnessed the signing of the MOU, which formalises the collaboration in deepening national AI expertise for Singapore’s digital defence.”

The Director of AI Singapore, Mr. Laurence Liew, has also noted on the following:
“The future of our defence not only needs our soldiers to be able “chiong” up Pengkang hill or climb over an obstacle wall, but we will also need soldiers who can protect our digital (and infrastructure) assets and “climb” over firewalls.
…
#aisingapore will partner with #MINDEF’s new Digital and Intelligence Service (#DIS) to groom students who may be keen to pursue a vocation (and hopefully career) with #DIS in AI/ML.
We will also bring #aisingapore’s AI Engineering capabilities via our #100E and #AIAP programs to work closely with #DIS experts and engineers.
This will allow our #AIAP apprentices (who are all Singaporeans) to deepen their skills in AI and cyber defence – a key skill for not only the defence industry but many other commercial industries such as finance, e-commerce, health etc.”
