Dear class,

At the start of this year, Aaron John and Ryan were nominated for the ITE Student Leader Forum. Some of you may remember me asking if you want to join and you all quickly shake your head and say dun want.

A number of you all carry on to explore your own passion projects, competitions and service works so that’s good you found your own drive.

I will like to thank Ryan for his contributions which allowed his team to close the gap and reach the finishing line.

I will also like to share a piece of news from Aaron John. His team has completed the ITE Student Leader forum and was featured in Malaysia news.

Let’s congratulate Aaron and thank both him and Ryan for representing our class at a school level.

A number of you are beginning to get the hang of finding opportunities for yourself, gathering skills, formulating new knowledge and daring to make friends outside of school through competitions, volunteer works and CCAs.

A few of you are also starting to be mentioned by others in official channels or even news due to your contributions and achievements.

Those of you who now have digital footprints created and backed by others, here are a few things you should do.

1) Keep a snapshot (image jpeg) or a PDF of the channel or article you are cited in.

Learn to be the Historian, the Chronicle Keeper of your life.

2) The thing about digital footprints, one day the website may disappear, the post showing your work maybe deleted. If it is a static or url locked webpage, a way to preserve it online is using Internet Archive platforms.

The most famous is the Wayback Machine. http://web.archive.org/

Other than PDF the page which is to ensure you have a local copy of people talking abt you, you can go to Wayback Machine and force the platform to go to a certain webpage and archive it.

“Save Page Now” feature.

This will create a digital snapshot in time. But this only works for HTML and CSS files. If the page is dynamic e.g., PHP and JavaScript. Wayback Machine will not be able to preserve the dynamic elements, in that case preserve the page yourself as image or PDF.

The reason for the self-archival works is for you to leave a trace of your contribution and achievements, because next time as you go higher and higher level jobs, people will do background checks, to verify your claims.

In the shorter term, you can add the news article links, the Instagram video post links in your EAE “Talent & Achievements” section, as well as include in your ever growing portfolio of works.
